Search Luna County Court Records
New Mexico Judiciary Case Lookup is the primary statewide portal for Luna County court records. The portal covers the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, District Court, Magistrate Court, and limited Municipal Court data. For Luna County, searchers can narrow by District Court location 619 Deming, Magistrate Court location 34 Deming, Municipal Court location 88 Deming, and Columbus Municipal Court location 78. Municipal coverage is limited to criminal Domestic Violence and DWI historic convictions from September 1, 1991 onward, so Deming Municipal Court should be contacted when a city case is not found.
The first screen is a disclaimer. It says the service is for viewing individual electronic court records, and it prohibits attempts to download multiple records in a single transaction. If the displayed information does not match the case, the user is directed to notify the court where the case was heard. That warning is important for Luna County because dockets, public search results, clerk files, and certified copies serve different roles.
- Open Case Lookup and accept the data-use disclaimer.
- Choose Name Search, Case Number Search, or DWI Search.
- Enter a name, case number, driver's license detail, date of birth, or year of birth if known.
- Use court type and court location filters to isolate Deming District, Magistrate, or Municipal cases.
- Review the case summary, then contact the court clerk for certified copies, corrections, older files, or documents not shown online.
The New Mexico Courts public records page is one of the official access points for Case Lookup, court public records, and related New Mexico judiciary resources.
That state public records page is useful when a Luna County court record search needs both case lookup and a formal court-records request path.
Luna County Search Fields
The Case Lookup name-search screen allows several search combinations. A name-only search can work, but it may return many statewide records. Luna County searches are more precise when court type, Deming court location, date range, or partial case-number filters are added. A full date of birth can help separate people with similar names, but the portal also supports a year-only birth search.

Luna County District Court records include felony criminal files, civil actions beyond lower-court jurisdiction, divorces, domestic relations, juvenile matters, family cases, contested probate disputes, and appeals from lower courts. These records are kept by the District Court Clerk at the Luna County Judicial Complex, not by the County Clerk. The District Court Clerk can be reached in person, by phone at 575-546-9611 Ext. 0, by email at demdadmin@nmcourts.gov, or by fax at 575-543-1605. Faxes over 10 pages need prior approval.
Magistrate Court records cover many misdemeanors, DWI, traffic, civil, landlord and tenant, and preliminary felony matters. Deming Municipal Court records cover city ordinance, municipal traffic, petty misdemeanor, and DWI matters under city jurisdiction. The Luna County Clerk is a different office. Clerk Barbara DeLaney handles recorded documents, marriage licenses, Board minutes, election records, and Probate Court clerk duties from 700 S. Silver Ave., Box 7, Deming, NM 88030.
- District civil files can include complaints, answers, motions, orders, judgments, writs, notices, and appeals.

- Family files can include divorce petitions, custody filings, support orders, decrees, and post-decree motions.
- Magistrate files can include misdemeanor, traffic, DWI, civil, and preliminary felony proceedings.
- Municipal files can include city traffic, ordinance, petty misdemeanor, and city DWI matters.
The New Mexico Compilation Commission legal research gateway is included in the local image set because statutes and court rules shape which Luna County court records remain public.
When a public record is limited by rule, statute, or court order, the legal authority matters as much as the local search tool.
Luna County Record Contents
A Luna County court record may show basic case data, party names, hearing dates, docket entries, filings, judicial officers, attorneys, outcomes, and financial details. Public Case Lookup is not a full document repository for every filing. Pleadings, orders, exhibits, certified copies, or older records may require clerk contact or eligible access through re:SearchNM.

The re:SearchNM public access page explains tiered access to Odyssey case information and documents.
That distinction helps explain why a public lookup may show case events while document access depends on role, eligibility, and court rules.
Luna County Access Law
New Mexico public access law applies to Luna County court records, but it does not make every record or every field public. NMSA 1978, Section 14-2-1 recognizes the right to inspect public records unless an exception applies. Section 14-2-8 sets the process for records requests. Section 14-3-15.1 governs use of computer database records and is cited by the Case Lookup disclaimer. Rule 1-079 NMRA governs public access to District Court civil records and allows limits by rule or written court order.
Practical access depends on the type of record. District Court case files route to the District Court Clerk. Magistrate Court files route to Luna County Magistrate Court at 912 S. Silver St. Deming Municipal Court files route to the city court at 1275 E. Pine St. County administrative records and recorded documents route to the Luna County Clerk or the county public-data request form. Law-enforcement records, booking records, and warrants route to sheriff, detention, or county records channels rather than New Mexico Courts.
Note: Online case data is a search aid. Use the originating court for certified copies or correction requests.
The New Mexico Courts IPRA portal is a formal request channel for court administrative and public records when a clerk or public lookup does not resolve the need.
IPRA requests are most useful when the sought material is not a simple online case lookup result or in-person copy request.
Restricted Luna County Records
Restricted court records include juvenile and children's cases, adoption records, mental health proceedings, sealed matters, expunged criminal records, and protected identifiers. Domestic violence and protection-order records may have public traces, but addresses, minor information, victim details, or protected contact data can be sealed or redacted. A record can be partly public and partly restricted.
New Mexico expungement is handled through the court, usually District Court, under the Criminal Record Expungement Act. The person seeking relief must identify the arrest, charge, or conviction, determine eligibility, file the required petition, notify agencies or custodians, and wait for a court order. Juvenile sealing is separate and follows Section 32A-2-26. A sealed or expunged record may not appear in public search results, even when authorized agencies still maintain limited access.
The New Mexico Department of Justice IPRA overview is another official source for public-records procedures and limits.
That statewide IPRA context helps separate the right to inspect records from the exceptions that protect sealed, juvenile, or private information.
Luna County Clerk Requests
For District Court files, the main in-person office is the Luna County District Court Clerk at the Luna County Judicial Complex. Bring a case number when possible, or enough party and date detail for staff to locate the file. For Magistrate Court matters, use the Magistrate Court contact. For municipal cases, contact Deming Municipal Court or the relevant municipal court. For county records, marriage licenses, recorded documents, and Probate Court clerk records, use the Luna County Clerk at 700 S. Silver Ave.
Older or missing Luna County court records should be handled through the court that heard the case. The District Court Clerk is the right office for felony, divorce, major civil, domestic, juvenile, contested probate, and lower-court appeal files. Luna County Magistrate Court should be used for many misdemeanor, DWI, traffic, civil, landlord and tenant, and preliminary felony records. Deming Municipal Court should be used for city ordinance, municipal traffic, petty misdemeanor, and city DWI records, especially because statewide municipal data is limited.
